Old McDonald had a farm….

…the theme song to our current theme at our facility in Harras. The children could not get enough of this song over the past weeks. What kind of different animals live on the farm, what do they look like and what makes them so special. To get some answers to all of these questions, the teachers decided to take the children to the city library to collect as much information as possible on farm animals. To spark their interest, we thought of a few farm themed activities. For one, the children were encouraged to dress as their favourite farm animal for carnival. However, the hands-down highlight of this theme was the visit to a farm in Mammendorf. Before we could even see the animals, we could already smell them. The farmer took her time to explain everything in detail. For example what and how much horses actually eat. Afterwards the children were allowed to fill up food bowls and of course also pet and groom them.
Most children love horses and horse riding. Therefore, the farmer gave a few brave ones the opportunity to have their first horse-riding lesson.

Moving on from the horses, the children could look at and even touch the sheep. Now the children were able to describe the difference between a smooth horse fur and that of a fluffy sheep. Of course, a visit on a farm would not be complete without seeing some chickens. The children could feed them and even watch one mommy-hen as she was laying an egg. How exciting! The children will definitely not forget this visit any time soon and will probably be telling everyone they meet about their exciting experience. A warm thank you from the Infanterix team to the farmer for taking the time for us.
