Mixing Colors

As part of our color theme, we continue where we left off with our recent experiments with colors. This time, the children from Haidhausen 1 learned how mixing colors generates new colors. We used shaving foam and food coloring to learn about color mixing. Shaving foam and food coloring provides a fantastic sensory art experience for children. Drip food coloring on top of shaving cream and watch it create interesting colorful patterns. Add a few drops for a lighter shade, and a few more for a darker one. While one group experimented with the shaving foam, the other group experimented with ice cube paint. We froze water, mixed with liquid food coloring, in ice trays and let the kids use the ice cubes to paint to their heart’s content as the ice cubes melted.
